Secondary & Primary Research
Many people mentioned taste as one of the factors why they would buy it. So, our team implemented into our design different types of taste that people would have a choice to choose from.
To test our prototype, we went around restaurants, cafes and on-the-go places again to ask people's opinion.
Our team was concerned about sustainability of our planet, specifically we wanted to concentrate on plastic utensils waste. From our secondary research, we found out that six million tons of nondurable plastics such as spoons, forks and knives are thrown away. We also found that there are some companies who are trying to solve this issue by producing edible cutlery. So, we wanted to explore more about the idea of edible cutlery. We decided to visit restaurants, cafes and on-the-go places to interview employees and consumers. As a team we had some hypothesis that we wanted to test. We assumed that consumers would be interested in using edible cutlery instead of plastic, would try to eat it and would pay more than $2. From our interviews we found out that consumers were interested in the idea but they were concerned about allergies, calories, taste and functionality. The majority of people said that they would pay less than $1 for edible cutlery. And restaurants were not interested.
Based on the research, it was identified that the total addressable market (TAM) for the snack bars market equals to $4.29 billion and for the food service disposables equals to $21.9 billion.
And serviceable addressable market (SAM) quals to $4.3 billion.

WORKSHOP FACILITATION
40 billion plastic utensils are used in the U.S. each year. Most of these utensils are used once and discarded, leading to vast amounts of waste. Traditional plastic cutlery is flimsy, creating waste and taking too much energy & up to 7 materials to make it. Our mission is to reduce waste associated with the act of eating.
How to reduce waste and harm associated with the act of eating?
After brainstorming we decided to introduce Milli.
We combined a fork, a spoon and a knife to create a one product.
